Lawyers around Australia are gearing up for 2009 Law Week, to be held from 11 to 17 May.

The event was previously held at different times throughout the year on a state-by-state basis, but from this year onward will be held nationally in May. The exception is Western Australia, which will hold Law Week in November this year, but will join the May festivities from 2010.

The aim of Law Week is to bride the gap between the legal profession and the community and to communicate the role the law and the justice system play in society.

Law Week events include seminars for the community on legal issues affecting different sectors of society, such as young people and the law, wills and power of attorney, women in the law, employment law and older persons and the law.

There will also be a host of social events such as the NSW Young Lawyers Golden Gavel Breakfast and the Monash Great Law Week Debate.

Details of events can be found on state/territory society website.
