LEADING COMPANIES will continue to increase the amount of legal work retained in-house, according to a recent UK survey.
Twenty three per cent of respondents said they expected to outsource less legal work in the coming year, with 6 per cent saying they expected to reduce outsourcing "significantly". This result was most pronounced among FTSE 100 companies, with 28 per cent saying they would reduce outsourcing. By contrast, 13 per cent of companies overall expected to increase the proportion work sent to private practice firms.
In addition, in-house departments are continuing to grow, with 38 per cent of respondents saying they had expanded their legal departments in the last year and 50 per cent of FTSE 100 companies having done so. Meanwhile, 13 per cent said their legal departments had decreased in size.
