One of the biggest homegrown NewLaw players, Law Squared, has gone west, opening the doors of a Perth office. It will be led by disputes and litigation lawyer Natalie Markovski (pictured), and – the firm said in a statement – will strengthen its national presence and enhance its ability to support in-house legal teams, C-suite and boards, and people and culture teams across Australian time zones.

Joining Markovski in Western Australia is lawyer Dicky Abraham, who recently joined the firm’s disputes and litigation team and is an accredited specialist in litigation in Victoria.

Law Squared now has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, London, and Auckland.

The news follows the firm’s appointment of four senior in-house lawyers back in August. It opened its doors in London in mid-2022 and expanded into New Zealand in September 2023.

The practice areas that will most benefit from the expansion, firm founder and director Demetrio Zema said, are disputes and litigation and energy and infrastructure.

“With the growing need of energy and infrastructure assets and projects in WA, together with the spread of disputes and litigation support we’re providing to insurers, and financiers across Australia, having a dedicated WA presence ensures we can seamlessly guide clients through their varying legal and commercial challenges,” he said.

Moreover, its in-house clients “also stand to benefit”, the firm posited.

“Perth is home to many exceptional in-house lawyers, yet working in-house can feel isolating. At Law Squared, we understand the value of connection. We’re excited to help build a strong local network where in-house lawyers can collaborate, share insights, and tap into the expertise of our national team of in-house specialists,” Zema said.

Elsewhere, the firm has moved to strengthen its corporate M&A ranks with the hire of lawyer Tun Yeo for its Sydney office.

Zema said: “Dicky and Tun exemplify the high-calibre talent we continue to attract to Law Squared. Their expertise, combined with our unique fixed-fee model, reinforces our ability to provide commercial, cost-effective legal support to our clients.”

Moreover, the firm welcomed graduates Maggie Robinson and Adrian Veerasingham as part of its 2025 grad intake (the third such intake the firm has welcomed).

“Watching our 2024 graduate cohort complete their rotations, celebrate admissions and accept permanent roles within Law Squared has been incredibly rewarding,” Zema said.

“Our graduates are shaping the future of Law Squared, and we’re excited to see this next group thrive.”
