International law firm Eversheds is moving against the trend of the economic slowdown by expanding their presence in Asia through the opening of an office in Singapore.
A spokesperson from Eversheds told Lawyers Weekly that the move was a positive one in view of the current economic crisis, particularly with many UK and international firms now in the process of cutting staff globally.
She said that the office will be established by Desmond Ong, who was previously the managing director of DLA Piper Singapore.
Ong will build the office alongside a team familiar with business dealings in the region, including DLA lawyers, as well as the previous legal director of Honeywell and general counsel from Manulife.
Commenting on the move, Ong said that the firm has seen strong international growth over six years and that in Asia, "We are already involved in many international transactions with Eversheds' global clients: Brady, Motorola and Rolls Royce."
Eversheds now has 41 offices in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
