THE EUROPEAN Commission has brought action against Microsoft for undermining product innovation and reducing consumer choice by attaching Internet Explorer to the Windows operating system.
Concerns were expressed by the EC that Internet Explorer is shielded from head-to-head competition with other browsers.
The commission also said that it created artificial incentives for content and software to be developed to suit the program.
Microsoft has eight weeks to respond to the action.
