BRISBANE-BASED firm McCullough Robertson will be hosting a stand at the Sydney Law Careers Fair this year for the first time due to high interest from Sydney-based lawyers for positions up north.
“The lifestyle aspects in Brisbane are far superior to Sydney, as you don’t have to battle the traffic and you can live a lot closer to work in a much nicer home,” Pocock said.
“When I lived in Sydney I used to do very little on the weekends as I was exhausted from my working week, but now I have a lot more energy for my family and friends.”
The firm believes the high interest mirrors the increasingly high quality of work available to lawyers in Brisbane, particularly in the practice areas of resources, corporate advisory, property, food and agribusiness.
“In the last two years our lawyers have worked on significant transactions, including the $2 billion takeover of Excel Coal by Peabody by way of scheme arrangement; the merger, restructure and IPO of Whitehaven Coal Ltd; the IPO of Wilson HTM Investment Group Limited; and the Mincom scheme of arrangement,” chairman Brett Heading said.
“I believe these transactions highlight the fact that lawyers no longer have to live in the southern capitals to experience the highest quality of work.”
