Inaugural LGBTQI+ scholarship awarded to law student
A Melbourne law student entering his second year of a juris doctor degree has won a scholarship from BigLaw firm Allens to support him in education and mentoring.

University of Melbourne second-year law student Curtis Haas has been named the first recipient of The Allens Pinnacle Scholarship, which has been created to provide education and mentoring support for young LGBTQI+ future lawyers.
Partner Robert Walker commented: “At Allens, providing an inclusive workplace where diversity – including identifying as LGBTQI+ – is celebrated is important to who we are as a firm. We are thrilled to be able to support Curtis through The Allens Scholarship and very excited to share in his journey to a career in law.”
Mr Haas is the first in his family to attend university and has recently graduated from a bachelor of international studies at RMIT University. Following his legal studies, he hopes to pursue a career in international commercial law, bringing together his interests in global political economy, Asia studies and human rights in business.
Managing director and chief executive officer of The Pinnacle Foundation, Andrew Staite, said the partnership will help transform the lives of young adults who identify as LGBTQI+.
“Allens is demonstrating genuine support for young adults in the LGBTQI+ community. The Allens scholarship presents unique opportunities for students like Curtis who are interested in a career in law,” he said.
