THE AUSTRALIAN Corporate Lawyers Association (ACLA) has announced that its own past president, national treasurer and company secretary, Tony de Govrik, has been elected to the Corporate Lawyer position on the Council of the NSW Law Society.
Arguing he was attracted to the position because of his “lengthy experience” with ACLA, de Govrik said he felt he “would be able to best represent corporate lawyers in the State”.
Demanding at least half a day a week, de Govrik said the new role is a “reasonable commitment”.
“Already there is a planning weekend for all the council next week,” de Govrik said. “So they are keeping us busy.”
De Govrik was the national president of ACLA for three years, up until the end of last year, and is therefore regarded to be well versed in the issues that concern in-house corporate lawyers in their day-to-day practice, ACLA members were told in an email recently.
