“IT IS a complete makeover that would make even Carson from Queer Eye For The Straight Guy pleased,” Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) president Chris Dale said of the building that houses the Institute’s staff in Melbourne’s centre.
“If the LIV is the centre of excellence that we think it should be, then it clearly needs to have an appropriate premises to work from,” Dale said. “The building has been completely rejuvenated.”
Now the old building, which used to be filled with shade and in which the windows were made from a glass you couldn’t see through, has been lightened up and modernised. While it used to be oppressive, according to Dale, now it has an uplifting feeling and is a “much better” working environment.
Totalling $4 million, the renovations were made over all seven floors of the building, taking six months to be completed. Certain materials were re-used in other parts of the building, for example the marble from the stairs at the entrance can now be found in the bathrooms.
The main meeting rooms, that used to be rather dull, according to Dale, now have multi-function rooms for mediation and meetings. “Gone are the caves and 1970s look and now it is a 21st century modern office environment,” Dale said.
