UK Magic Circle firm Linklaters is reportedly in discussions with Australian top-tier firm Allens Arthur Robinson regarding a potential tie-up.
When contacted by Lawyers Weekly, Allens said the firm does not comment on its discussions with other firms.
"As we've stated previously, we have strong relationships with a number of law firms globally. We meet regularly with them both in Australia and internationally to discuss developments in the market,” said Allens director of corporate affairs Chris Fogarty. “We don't comment on the nature of those discussions. Our priority is our clients and their needs.”
In response to the claims, a Linklaters spokesperson told The Lawyer: “Linklaters has a large Australian client base and we do a lot of work for international clients in relation to Australia. We work closely with all the leading Australian law firms and frequently meet them all around the world.”
Talk of a Linklaters and Allens tie-up follows confirmation earlier this month that Freehills and Herbert Smith are in “exploratory talks”.
