Artwork to be auctioned at this year’s Fuji Xerox Australian Law Awards will benefit a Sydney community-based legal firm that provides no-cost advice and representation for Indigenous Australians.

Those attending the 2 June gala dinner will be able to bid in a silent auction for pieces by John Olsen, Andrew Hmelnitsky and Joanna Logue. Olsen, an Archibald Portrait prize winner and probably Australia’s best known landscape artist, is particularly well known for his iconic frog images.

Hmelnitsky has travelled extensively and incorporates his study of 15th and 16th century painting techniques into his work. And Logue is a landscape artist who finds abstraction and inspiration in the surrounds of her country home.

Proceeds from the silent auction will go to the Sydney Regional Aboriginal Corporation Legal Service (SRACLS), a non-profit legal firm with offices in Redfern, Blacktown, Liverpool and Wollongong. SRACLS’ team of 26 legal professionals and six Indigenous field officers provides legal services to Indigenous Australians across more than 100 courts in the Sydney region. The field officers provide a link between clients held in correctional facilities and legal staff and are also on call to support inmates and their families.
