Elizabeth Needham, who has served as acting president since the resignation of Mr Keogh in August, has been elected president of the Law Society of Western Australia.

The decision was made at a council meeting on 8 September and Mrs Needham will stay on as president until 31 December.

Mrs Needham has been in the profession for more than 20 years and currently practices as a barrister in Francis Burt Chambers where she specialises in family, crime, human rights and administrative law.

“I am delighted and honoured to have been elected as president of the Law Society,” Mrs Needham said.

“I look forward to representing the legal profession in Western Australia and continuing to work on behalf of the society’s members.”

Alain Musikanth will now assume the position of senior vice-president, Hayley Cormann will assume the position of vice-president and Marie Botsis will assume the position of treasurer, all until 31 December.
