The Australian Insurance Law Association (AILA) has appointed Lee & Lyons partner David Lee as president.

Lee launched Lee & Lyons Lawyers with business partner Lucinda Lyons in 2002. He has over 25 years' experience working with insurers in Australia, the US, UK and Europe across financial lines, public and products liability, and property.

A certified practicing accountant since 1998, Lee is a member of the Australian Institute of Company of Directors and the immediate past chair of AILA's NSW branch. He was the national board's vice president until his elevation to the presidency at the national conference in Perth last week.

During his presidency, Lee will work with the board and state committees to encourage greater industry participation in AILA, expand involvement in seminars and build sponsorship.

"I am conscious that AILA has some good competitors in insurance law education, and the association needs to continue to host topical, relevant seminars with well-regarded speakers to ensure our place in the provision of insurance law education remains significant," Lee said.

Lee has been invited to participate in the Insurance Reform Advisory Group convened by Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten and said he will work to foster closer relations between AILA and emerging insurance law associations in Hong Kong and Singapore.
