Allens Arthur Robinson has appointed former Clifford Chance lawyer Debra Counsell as a special counsel in the firm's energy and resources practice group.

Counsell was formerly part of the projects energy and infrastructure group at Clifford Chance in Paris, where she worked on a variety of projects and project financings in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Prior to that, Counsell worked in Vietnam in what is now Allens' Hanoi office. She will now be based in Melbourne.

Corporate executive partner Paul Quinn said Counsell would bring extensive global project experience to Allens, particularly in the mining, oil and gas sectors.

"Debra's international experience and direct knowledge of Asia through her time in Vietnam fits with the clients we're working with who are looking for a regional and global perspective, along with local insight," said Quinn.

"We are currently involved in major oil and gas projects in China, Mongolia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Australia," he said.
