Criminal lawyer Clive Jeffreys has been appointed a judge of the District Court of New South Wales.

Prior to his appointment to the District Court, the barrister and solicitor also owned and operated his own practice, Jeffreys & Associates.

"Mr Jeffreys has been involved in the practice of criminal law since 1973 and has appeared as an advocate in more than 300 jury trials in the District Court alone," said NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos.

"He has regularly appeared in Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeal matters involving serious offences such as murder and commercial drug supply, and has appeared in the High Court on special leave applications."

Jeffreys will be sworn in as a judge on 15 March 2011.
