Geoff Carter has been appointed head of Minter Ellison's mergers unit and Paul Schoff head of the cartels unit.

As existing senior partners, they will join the firm's 60-strong Australasian competition group.

Carter, based in Melbourne, is experienced in merger clearance work across a range of industries and has acted for both purchasers and vendors, including the Toll Holdings takeover of Patrick Corporation.

Schoff, based in Sydney, has been recognised as a leading competition specialist and is the lead partner defending Singapore Airlines Cargo in its prosecution by the ACCC.
