Today (Tuesday, 18 February), NRF welcomed Lucinda McCann as a partner in its financial services team. She will be based in the global firm’s Sydney office.

She brings, NRF said in a statement, over 25 years of experience in transactional and advisory work as a legal adviser to executives and boards across a range of sectors, including government and regulatory, financial services and corporate.

Prior to joining NRF, McCann served as the chief general counsel for nearly three years at the prudential regulator for the financial services sector, APRA, prior to which she also served in senior legal roles for the regulator.

Before this, she was a GC at AMP, a partner at Henry Davis York (now part of NRF), senior legal counsel at AMP Capital, and senior associate at Mallesons Stephen Jacques (now King & Wood Mallesons).

The appointment follows last week’s reporting of NRF taking a Canberra-based partner from BigLaw rival HWL Ebsworth for its public law team, as well as the firm’s promotion of two lawyers to partner in December, the addition of an Australian head of cyber in September, the promotion of 34 senior lawyers in July, and the poaching of a tech partner and former co-head of Lander & Rogers’ national digital economy practice in April.

Speaking about the appointment, NRF Australian chief executive partner Alison Deitz said: “The financial services industry is facing a time of unprecedented challenges, including an increasingly complex regulatory environment, the need to transform business through technological innovation and the impact of ESG.”

“Lucinda’s wealth of experience gained through the significant roles she has undertaken will be invaluable to global and domestic clients in the banking, superannuation, insurance, funds, government, and wealth sectors as they seek to navigate these challenges. Her appointment also complements our recruitment of partner Liz Hastilow last year and deepens our financial services offering.”

McCann said: “I am excited to be joining Norton Rose Fulbright to assist clients as they pursue growth and grapple with the myriad regulations that apply to the financial services industry.

“There are tremendous opportunities in Australia’s superannuation sector in particular, which continues to grow in size and significance and is subject to ongoing legislative reform and scrutiny.

“With more than two decades’ experience advising executives and boards of government, regulatory, financial services, and corporate organisations, I feel uniquely placed to offer valuable insights and advice to our clients in Australia and around the world.”
