Jane Wright, Director

What inspires you about this industry?

I am inspired by how every day, and every matter is different. Employment law allows you to impact one of the most important areas of everyone’s life. Our team also inspires me, I love working with intelligent, motivated people while tackling challenging situations.

Where does Workdynamic Australia see itself in the Australian market at this point in time?

A leading provider of employment law and investigation services. We provide top-tier client experience and quality for a reasonable cost, while also seeking to be an employer of choice for our team in offering high quality work and clients based on a flexible working model.

Lauren Barel, Director

What is the most exciting aspect of your area of practice in law?

Practicing employment law is always exciting due to the ever-changing legislative landscape. The introduction of each new Federal government often brings new sets of laws. As lawyers, this requires us to regularly adjust to new industrial landscapes and legal requirements, which makes the area a stimulating and interesting area to work in.

How do you innovate to stay ahead of your competition?

We consistently work to review and improve our methodology for providing legal advice and conducting workplace investigations. This includes making constant improvements to our templates, processes and ways of working, always being on the look-out for technological assistance and asking our clients for feedback.

Jonathan Wright, Director

What are your goals for the next five years?

We want to remain at the forefront of our industry and to continue to grow organically through repeat business and reputation. We want to continue to help our clients navigate the ever-changing legislative and social expectations of employers.

What are the most important trends that you see in your area of practice?

We have seen an increase in regulation, and a commensurate increase in the number and type of workplace claims. In particular, the recent emphasis on psychosocial hazards and the prevention of sexual harassment has raised the profile of these workplace matters, and we have seen an increase in the number of reports relating to these matters. It is vitally important that workplaces have robust practices to avoid these risks from eventuating, and a willingness to act on these matters when they arise.

Kathy Dalton, Director

What advice would you have for young lawyers coming through the ranks?

Always remember there is no such thing as a stupid question. If you don’t know something, ask. Take responsibility for your career by seeking out growth opportunities and mentors to support and guide you. Most importantly, maintain a healthy work life balance.

What challenges do you face in your practice? How do you overcome them?

Managing competing client demands is always a challenge in a busy practice. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming. To keep things in perspective I often recall a saying I heard from a colleague. ‘How do you eat an elephant? - One bite at a time’. Everything can be managed if you take it one step at a time.
