Allens Arthur Robinson (AAR) announced six new partners, effective July 1, 2006. To the energy, resources and infrastructure practice come Stephen McComish, who has been with AAR since 2004 and will be based in Perth, and Ben Zillmann, who started at AAR as an articled clerk and will be based inBrisbane. Victoria Poole, who was educated in Auckland, and pursued classical singing before her law career, will be in the Sydney corporate and commercial practice. Kim Reid will return from Sydney to his nativePerth to work inlitigation and dispute resolution. Matthew Skinner will work inlitigation and dispute resolution in the Sydney office. Robert Clarke will be based inSingapore, where he has been involved for over six years in the areas of M&As and corporate finance. Chairman Jim Thynne commented, “I am pleased at the geographical diversity of the appointments, with the successful candidates to work in four different offices across the Asia-Pacific region. This reflects the strength of our national and international networks.” Managing partner Tom Poulton said, “The two new partner appointments in the Perth office show Allens Arthur Robinson’s commitment to Western Australia and our confidence in the legal market there.”
Mills Oakley Lawyers announced the appointment of two lawyers Siew Ling Lian and Bill Giarvis to their property and finance groups. Lian joins Mills Oakley from Russell Kennedy and her experience includes securitisation of loan portfolios, large-scale land sub-divisions, industrial and commercial finance. She specialises in the areas of finance and securities, commercial development finance and commercial property finance. Giarvis is an experienced finance and property lawyer. He specialises in the areas of commercial & corporate finance, mezzanine finance, construction finance, retail and commercial leasing and was most recently employed at Diakou Faigen Lawyers. Prior to this Giarvis operated his own legal practice in the CBD and held a political appointment in Greece.
Corrs Chambers Westgarth announced the appointment of Anne Hurley as special counsel in the firm's property practice in Perth. Hurley's core areas of expertise are property and commercial law, with individual, corporate, and government clients. After obtaining a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia, Hurley joined Kott Gunning Lawyers and was with the firm for 22 years. In 2005, she joined Hammond Worthington Lawyers as a partner in their property/commercial section. Partner and chief executive officer of Corrs Chambers Westgarth, John Denton, said that Hurley has an “impressive track record” in the areas of property and commercial law.
The College of Law Queensland announced the addition of Jennifer Sheean and Graeme Haas to its lecturing staff. Sheean has practised in New South Wales and Queensland in a diverse range of areas including wills and estates, business restructuring, commercial developments and general (commercial, criminal and family) litigation, and completed her Masters in Maritime Law at the University of Queensland in 2003. Director of The College of Law Queensland, Ann-Maree David, commented, “[Sheean] has a tremendous amount of experience in both Australia’s largest market for commercial legal services, New South Wales, as well as Australia’s fastest growing market for such services in south-east Queensland.” David also welcomed Haas as an “enviable all-rounder,” bringing a wide scope of practical experience to the College. Haas’ experience includes civil and criminal litigation, commercial, family, leasing and property. He volunteers at the Caxton Street Legal Centre.
