The recent arrival of senior associate Katharine Lee to the Clayton Utz construction and major projects team “further boosts the Melbourne arm” of the group, said the firm. Lee, who has a dual degree in architecture and law, comes to the team with legal experience gained in the construction and transport sectors. Working in-house at the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation in Hong Kong, Lee was part of last year's Construction In-house Team of the Year in the ALB Hong Kong Law Awards. Prior to moving in-house she spent a period at the Hong Kong office of Masons Thelen Reid, where she was involved in a range of large-scale deals in the region.

Having originally trained as an architect, Lee taught in the architecture faculty at Sydney University while completing her law degree there. She says there are striking similarities between designing buildings and drafting contracts and she enjoys them both very much. “Working in this field there is no doubt that my architectural and in-house legal experience gives a special insight into the construction industry and adds an extra dimension to my ability to advise clients,” she said.

Lee is looking forward to practising in Australia. She said that as transport was the other string to her practice bow, she looked forward to working at Clayton Utz, which was voted 2005 Transport Firm of the Year.
