My Next Move: Plenty of opportunities for lawyers to move overseas
London is calling for Australian lawyers, writes Shobana Richmond from Taylor Root.

Law firms in London are in active recruitment mode and willing to sponsor Australian qualified lawyers in particular areas as evidenced by recent recruitment campaigns run by leading UK firms in Australia.
Moreover, areas such as the Middle East, Asia, and the USA (New York in particular) have been enjoying higher volumes of transactional activity and are willing to look to the antipodes to snare the very best local talent.
There is no denying that standards are high - these firms will only take people with strong academic results from prestigious universities and experience from top 10 firms. However, it is fair to say that mid-level lawyers (with at least 2+ years post admission experience) from top tier firms have a good chance of moving overseas.
This is great news for Australian lawyers, disenchanted by poor work-flows, salary-freezes and lack of career progression in the local market.
Banking & Finance lawyers are in the greatest demand in the UK, Middle East, Asia and New York. Litigators with general commercial, insurance, construction, international arbitration or financial services/regulatory experience are also doing well in London and Asia. We are also placing lawyers in areas such as Corporate, TMT, Energy, Projects, Construction and Employment in all of these locations.
This is a great time to start thinking seriously about an overseas move. With offices across the globe, Taylor Root are well-placed to assist lawyers looking to make an international step in their career.
