Thomsons Lawyers and Mallesons Stephen Jacques are advising on the $1.2 billion Fitzroy Coal Terminal Project.
It was recently declared a significant project under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971.
Upon completion, the new coal chain supply infrastructure will have the capacity to export up to 22 million tonnes of coal per annum and significantly benefit the Central Queensland mining community.
The proponents require multi-disciplinary legal services to address the complex aspects of the project, including environmental approvals, project development and financing, negotiations and agreements with customers (including the Gladstone Port Corporation and landholders), and construction and operational aspects.
Thomsons are advising the Mitchell Group while Mallesons act for Gladstone Port Authority.
Thomsons construction partner Andrew Kelly has worked with the Mitchell Group for many years and introduced the Thomsons team to the project facilitators. Special counsel Kathie Sadler, who has recently returned from over three years working on the Oakajee Port and Rail Project in Western Australia, is the lead project lawyer working with the Mitchell Group, with environmental and property partner Michael Marshall and his team providing strategic advice and assistance with approval aspects.
Corporate partner Eugene Fung is the Thomsons team coordinator.
