Adelaide-based Pace Lawyers is preparing to offer a one-week paid placement to either a female high school student undertaking legal studies or a university law student.

The decision on the successful applicant was expected to be made yesterday, in order to recognise International Women's Day. However, Adelaide Legal associate lawyer Julia Adlam told Lawyers Weekly that a "flurry" of late applications meant that the decision will be made later in the week.

"We had applications from high school and university students, and may even offer more than one position," Adlam said.

Adelaide Legal is the personal law arm of Pace Lawyers, which is a boutique corporate firm.

The placement would be negotiated with the student, and would occur at a time when either school or university was on holidays.

Adlam said that the founder of the firm and principal lawyer, Serina Pace, was inspired to offer the internship by the theme of this year's International Women's Day, which was 'Equal access to education, training and science and technology; Pathway to decent work for women'.

"Having made her mark in a tough, male dominated industry, Serina wanted to afford a helping hand and similar inspiration to the next generation of female practitioners," Adlam said.
