Allens Arthur Robinson has announced it is acting for Royal Dutch Shell on its bid for Brisbane-based international coal seam gas company, Arrow Energy.

The bid, valued at $3.8 billion, is being undertaken jointly with Chinese oil and gas producer and distributer PetroChina, represented by Blake Dawson.

The Allens team working on the bid encompasses lawyers from numerous sectors of the firm, including tax, finance and competition law.

"Allens has brought together a large team to handle all the legal aspects for a successful joint venture offer and to work alongside the other firms involved," said partner Andrew Knox in a statement released this week.

Knox also stated that the 50-50 joint venture flags the arrival of China as a major player in Australia's burgeoning coal seam gas industry.

"This transaction reflects what is becoming a growing trend of international organisations looking to invest in Australia," he said.
