Mary Macken, incoming president of the Law Society of NSW, outlines her key agendas for 2010, aside from COAG reform.

Macken says a key priority will be facilitating greater access to corporate law for both the community and the legal profession - she notes that lawyers in NSW need better recognition of the active role they can play on boards and regulatory bodies.

She also says that the issue of women in the profession needs to be further addressed - in particular, the advancement of more women to senior roles in law.

Macken adds that she will use her experience gained as director of the Australian Weightlifting Federation to investigate opportunities for lawyers to better participate in the sports law industry, and plans to reinforce the international links of both the Law Council of Australia and the Law Society of NSW in a bid to enhance Australia's legal profile.
