National BigLaw firm Mills Oakley has appointed five new partners to its Sydney office, all of whom are lateral hires from fellow national firms.
Spanning the firm’s corporate advisory, taxation and property teams, Mills Oakley has added five new partners to its ranks, bringing the total number of partners nationwide to over 170.
Brendan Wykes, Greg Smith, Andy Milidoni, Shanna Kruger, and Mike Ellis (all pictured) will be based in the BigLaw firm’s Sydney office.
Wykes, who has joined the firm’s corporate advisory team, previously served as the director of national law firm Kain Lawyers. He brings with him over 25 years of experience, specialising in mergers and acquisitions.
Smith moves over from global firm rival Baker McKenzie, where he held the roles of senior associate and special counsel during his tenure of over four years. He is also set to join the corporate advisory team at Mills Oakley, bringing 15 years of experience in this sector with him.
After nearly two decades at Johnson Winter & Slattery and having served as a partner for over six years, Milidoni will be transitioning to join the taxation practice at Mills Oakley. He possesses extensive expertise “in all aspects of revenue law, trust law and some aspects of superannuation law”, accumulated over a career spanning more than 25 years in this field.
Kruger has joined the BigLaw firm’s property sector after spending three years at the national law firm Gadens, where she held the position of partner. She specialises in property development, with a strong emphasis on residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
After serving as a partner at the Sydney-based firm Vincent Young, Ellis has now joined the firm’s property team.
With 30 years of experience in the property sector, Mills Oakley has noted that Ellis has been the lead project lawyer on some of the state’s most significant transactions, developments, and whole precinct urban renewals.
All of these new partners have recently joined the firm.
This news comes after Mills Oakley hired two partners from rival firms at the start of the month, having previously poached a former MinterEllison partner and his Adelaide-based insurance team in February and added a disputes and insolvency practitioner to its partnership in December, which brought the firm’s partner ranks to 170 nationwide.
Speaking about these appointments, Mills Oakley CEO John Nerurker highlighted how the new partners will enhance the expertise within the Sydney office and strengthen the legal services offered to clients.
“At Mills Oakley, we are clear on our commitment to create success for our clients, providing a level of legal service that bridges the gap between the law and modern business reality.
“Our new partner hires ‘strengthen the bench’ even further in Sydney, ensuring we offer our clients the country’s best legal minds and the highest quality advice,” Nerurker said.
