International law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has added a new partner in Sydney, who joins from BigLaw rival Corrs Chambers Westgarth.
New HSF partner Andrew Leadston has joined the firm’s Sydney real estate team.
Leadston joins from Corrs Chambers Westgarth, where he spent more than 13 years, nine of those as a partner. Prior to joining Corrs, he was a senior associate at HSF for more than four years.
He has more than 23 years of legal experience, with expertise in the real estate sector advising on complex and varied real estate transactions, including property developments, private capital transactions, leasing, joint ventures and asset management.
This comes after the partners of both Herbert Smith Freehills and NYC-headquartered firm Kramer Levin voted to merge, creating a fully integrated global law firm, earlier this month. The news also follows the appointment of a new global chief people officer in November last year, as well as the promotion of two partners to energy leads earlier that month.
Real estate managing partner Luke Simpson said Leadston’s appointment is a strategic move to further strengthen the firm’s real assets and private capital expertise.
“Our ongoing investment in our partnership ensures we are well-positioned to support the growing demand in Australia for private capital funds and emerging asset classes,” he said.
“This includes continued expansion in the living sector – such as social and affordable housing, build-to-rent, residential, student accommodation, and retirement living – as well as alternate asset classes like data centres, life sciences and healthcare.”
