Hicksons Lawyers (nearly 300 partners and staff) and Hunt & Hunt NSW (almost 90 partners and staff) have agreed to integrate their operations, creating a competitive new force in the Sydney market.
From 1 July, Hicksons Lawyers and Hunt & Hunt NSW will combine operations, which will see a new combined entity offer services spanning corporate and commercial, dispute resolution, insurance, real estate, construction and planning, workplace and employment law, technology, health, regulatory, marine, inquiries, and family law.
Hicksons brings a workforce of 288 partners and staff, and Hunt & Hunt NSW brings 88 partners and staff, to the combined entity.
Lawyers Weekly understands that the merger does not impact the other Hunt & Hunt offices nationally.
A spokesperson said that the firms are “working through the resource synergies and development opportunities the merger will bring for both our clients and our people”.
The name of the new merged firm has not yet been decided, with the firms currently planning its branding to take effect at the start of the new financial year.
Cameron Leaver (pictured), the managing partner of Hicksons, will serve as head of the new combined entity.
Speaking about the merger, he said: “The agreement with Hunt & Hunt NSW is an important milestone for both firms.”
“We have made a commitment to provide clients with a broader range of services to meet their needs in a rapidly changing environment, and our partners have recognised this would be underpinned by expansion of our capabilities across key practice areas,” Leaver said.
“We also knew this would entail strategic merger opportunities. Hunt & Hunt NSW presents as a natural partner for Hicksons because there are strong synergies across our two firms, we both have a commitment to excellence and we are confident the combination will allow us to provide greater value to clients.”
Sarah Cappello and Hasti Kalarostaghi, the managing partners at Hunt & Hunt, said that the firms each bring a proud legacy to this merger.
“Together, we bring more than two centuries of legal experience, shared values and a strong commitment to genuine relationships and practical client solutions. This merger is not just about history – it’s about building for the future,” they said.
“Our clients will benefit from enhanced technology, expanded service offerings, and access to a broader team with deeper industry expertise. We will be able to offer a more integrated, end-to-end service while continuing to deliver the practical, client-focused advice we’re known for.”
“It’s an exciting next step, and we are confident that the firm will be a stronger, more dynamic platform for both our people and our clients,” Cappello and Kalarostaghi noted.
