National law firm Maddocks has appointed two special counsel to its growing real estate and probity teams in Canberra, who join from MinterEllison and Proximity.
Maddocks has bolstered its government sector offering in Canberra with the addition of special counsels Chloe Costas in the real estate team and Sarah Pearce in the probity team.
Costas joins the firm from MinterEllison, where she was a senior associate. She has extensive experience across a range of property matters, having advised on major leasing and acquisition and disposal transactions as well as development work across commercial, industrial and build-to-rent residential properties across Australia and internationally.
Pearce joins Maddocks from Proximity, where she was a principal adviser and probity team lead. She has extensive experience in probity, commercial law and procurement, having provided critical insights and advice to government clients on large, complex procurements and grants processes.
The new appointments take the number of special counsel to eight for the Canberra team and follow the appointment of a special counsel in Sydney last month, the firm’s addition of a partner for its employment practice in January, the hiring of a partner to lead its competition law practice in December and its poaching of a team of four, including a partner, from Holding Redlich in October last year.
Maddocks’ work for the government spans 140 years – and Commonwealth sector leader Simonetta Astolfi said Maddocks’ clients will benefit from the new appointments.
“We are delighted to welcome Chloe and Sarah to our team. Their expertise across real estate and strategic probity and process will significantly enhance our capabilities and help us continue to provide our clients with exceptional legal support,” she said.
“These appointments reflect our commitment to investing in our people and ensuring we have the right teams in place to deliver on strategically important matters. Our clients will greatly benefit from Chloe and Sarah’s insights and experience.”
