Colin Biggers & Paisley has commemorated its 125th anniversary of practice, which the firm’s managing partner describes as a testament to its “current partners”, “vision of those who came before”, and those who have “contributed their expertise” to its practice.
Last week, national law firm Colin Biggers & Paisley celebrated its 125th anniversary in the legal sector, having initially opened its doors in 1900.
Since its inception, the firm has evolved from a boutique practice in Sydney to a national presence, now having additional offices in Brisbane and Melbourne while effectively advising national and international clients.
The substantial growth can be attributed to strategic mergers Colin Biggers & Paisley conducted with “esteemed firms”, including Monahan & Rowell, Hemming + Hart, and Logie-Smith Lanyon. These mergers have enabled the firm to reinforce its position within the legal market and expand its service offerings.
The national law firm offers expertise across a broad range of industries, including but not limited to insurance, property, construction, transport and logistics, education, corporate advisory, and technology.
Nick Crennan, the managing partner, expressed the “immense significance” of achieving this milestone for Colin Biggers & Paisley.
“Reaching 125 years is a milestone of immense significance, and we are proud of the legacy we have built. Throughout our history, we have been steadfast in our commitment to excellence, integrity, and service – values that have distinguished us as leaders in the legal profession.
“This achievement is a testament to the dedication of our current partners, the vision of those who came before us, and the many people who have contributed their expertise and effort to our practice,” Crennan said.
The national law firm affirmed its enduring commitment to the core values instilled by its founding leaders, which emphasised a “deep commitment to community and social responsibility”.
This commitment was formalised with the establishment of the Colin Biggers & Paisley Foundation in 2016 which, since its inception, has delivered over 64,000 hours of pro bono legal services, contributed nearly 6,000 hours of volunteer work, and donated more than $2 million to support marginalised communities.
“As we celebrate this 125-year milestone … we also reflect on the responsibility that comes with our profession. We never forget that, as lawyers, we hold a privileged licence in society, and with that privilege comes a duty – to support those in need and give back to the communities we serve.
“Our commitment to this responsibility is stronger than ever, and it will continue to guide us into the future,” Crennan noted.
Deputy managing partner Andrew Murray stated: “Today, we are more than just lawyers – we are strategic partners, problem-solvers, and drivers of progress, committed to building a stronger future for our clients, colleagues, and communities. As we celebrate 125 years, we honour our legacy while embracing the opportunities ahead.”
Looking ahead, the national law firm expressed how it “remains dedicated to investing in its people through strategic hires and promotions while deepening its community impact and enhancing its outcome-focused solutions”.
