Shane Bilardi (pictured) stepped into the role as DLA Piper’s new country managing partner (CMP) for Australia after more than five years of experience with the global law firm. He was appointed to the role late last year.

Bilardi, who assumed the position this week, underscored the firm’s strong regional and global connectivity as a key advantage moving forward, positioning it for success in driving client growth and navigating risks in an increasingly complex global landscape.

“In complex global conditions, this connectivity is more important than ever as we actively work with our clients to support their growth plans and help them manage risk,” Bilardi said.

Jean-Pierre Douglas-Henry, DLA Piper’s managing director for the Asia-Pacific region and global head of sustainability and resilience, reinforced the significance of this global reach, noting that internationalisation has been a defining trend in the Australian legal market for over 15 years.

“Internationalisation of the legal market for Australian firms has been happening at a rapid pace here for over 15 years, in response to a changing global legal landscape. We were ahead of the curve in creating a truly global firm, now operating in over 90 offices across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific,” Douglas-Henry said.

Expressing confidence in Bilardi’s leadership, Douglas-Henry highlighted his ability to leverage the firm’s global strengths and deep client relationships as DLA Piper Australia embarks on its next chapter.

“We are excited and optimistic about this next phase with Shane Bilardi as Australia’s CMP. Shane led our Australian corporate practice prior to taking on this role and understands the firm’s unique strengths, client base and how we can leverage our international connections to support their success.

“He was the ideal choice to replace Amber Matthews and build on her legacy. We thank her for her service to the firm over many years,” Douglas-Henry said.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, Bilardi was joined by Amber Matthews, his predecessor, to discuss the strategies they have implemented to maintain the firm’s competitiveness and navigate the complexities of an increasingly challenging legal landscape.
