Dixon Hearder (pictured) is moving back to Baker McKenzie and will serve as a partner in the global firm’s Sydney office.

He is, the firm said in a statement, “one of Australia’s leading tax professionals” with more than three decades of experience, leading and collaborating with diverse teams to successfully deliver complex projects and strategic tax outcomes for large multinationals and domestic groups.

His work across a range of industries, the firm continued, has included controversy, acquisitions and divestments, business integrations and reorganisations, tax reporting and compliance, concentrating on multinational tax with a focus on transfer pricing, international tax as well as indirect tax (duty and GST).

He spent the last five years working as the senior director of transfer pricing and international tax at Expedia Group. Prior to this, he was a partner at Bakers for almost a decade, a partner and senior associate at Corrs Chambers Westgarth for nearly seven years, and an associate at Clifford Chance.

The news follows the rejoining of Bakers by partner Bryan Paisley earlier this year, who most recently served at Hogan Lovells.

It also follows the appointment of a former general counsel as a new construction partner in Brisbane in November and the firm’s naming of a new India chair in the same month.

Speaking about the appointment, Baker McKenzie’s national managing partner in Australia, Anne-Marie Allgrove, said: “Dixon is a distinguished tax lawyer.

“He now rejoins Baker McKenzie at a time [when] we are experiencing increasing client demand, having acted on a number [of] landmark matters where his experience will be greatly valued.”

The firm’s head of tax in Australia, Simone Bridges, said: “Dixon is an outstanding lawyer of the highest international repute.

“His return to Baker McKenzie in Australia is a tremendous coup given his obvious desirability to top-tier firms both here and internationally. The fact that he returns to Baker McKenzie is testament to the market-leading team and landmark work of our local offices.“
