G+T rolls out ‘Harvey’ AI platform
National law firm Gilbert + Tobin has become the latest legal practice to partner with the artificial intelligence platform 'Harvey', to enhance the daily legal operations of its team of 650 lawyers.
Gilbert + Tobin (G+T) has launched Harvey, an advanced generative AI tool across the firm’s Australian offices. The partnership with the AI platform, the national law firm shared, will reinforce its “commitment to excellence, innovation and embracing generative AI in daily legal practice”.
G+T shared that the rollout follows the completion of a comprehensive pilot program in which over 200 lawyers from various practice groups identified the “key use cases for this generative AI tool”.
Harvey, a generative domain-specific AI platform explicitly designed for legal and professional service providers, can assist with key components of legal work, including document review, drafting and summarisation.
This announcement follows PwC partnering with Harvey in March 2023, as well as the implementation of this AI platform by the global law firm Allen & Overy in the preceding month.
Caryn Sandler (pictured), partner and chief knowledge and innovation officer at G+T, expressed the firm’s enthusiasm for the adoption of this new AI tool, highlighting the advantages it affords.
“Gilbert + Tobin remains committed to delivering innovative, client-focused legal solutions, and the adoption of generative AI is a key part of that strategy.
“We are excited about the introduction of Harvey as one of our AI tools, which will enhance our workflows and the delivery of our legal services,” Sandler said.
“As we embrace AI, we continue to prioritise responsible use, ensuring alignment with our professional obligations while investing in the necessary training to empower our people.”
Winston Weinberg, the chief executive of Harvey, also shared his excitement about the opportunity to collaborate with G+T and to support it in navigating the realm of artificial intelligence.
“AI has the potential to meaningfully shape the future of the legal industry. It’s no surprise, given Gilbert + Tobin’s storied reputation as a firm in pursuit of remarkable ambition, that they are investing meaningfully in this space on behalf of their customers.
“Harvey is proud to support Gilbert + Tobin’s continued growth and evolution,” Weinberg said.
