McCabes takes team of 10 from HBA Legal
Fast-growing BigLaw firm McCabes has bolstered its insurance ranks in Brisbane, taking 10 professionals from fellow national practice HBA Legal.
McCabes – which now operates in four of Australia’s capital cities – is set to relocate to a larger Brisbane office next month, after expanding its headcount in Queensland’s capital via the addition of 10 professionals from national firm HBA Legal, which has six offices nationally, for its insurance division.
Principal Jamie McPherson (pictured), who served at HBA as a partner for nearly four years, will lead McCabes’ workers’ compensation practice group.
He has been joined at the fast-growing BigLaw firm by special counsel Robert Parcell, lawyer Bailey Afa, senior paralegal Michael Bannister, paralegals Annabelle Wall, Joshua Crevola, and Shannon Brown, executive legal assistant Trudi Hart, and legal assistant Emily Keating.
Additionally, the firm has added lawyer Sarah Hagos for its casualty practice group, where she will work with principal Kim Waygood, who came across from HBA to McCabes in October.
The 10 have all now commenced at McCabes.
The news follows the firm’s promotion of 11 professionals, including naming one partner, in January.
Speaking about the move, McPherson said: “I am delighted to be joining the McCabes’ team.
“McCabes’ strong investment in their people and infrastructure has always impressed me, and I look forward to continuing to grow and learn from their innovative and professional approach to providing legal services.”
McCabes managing principal Andrew Lacey added that the taking of the team reinforces the firm’s commitment to national growth.
“A priority for the firm has always been the growth of our national footprint, and strategic additions of forward-thinking experts in Brisbane will provide a wider range of services to our clients in Queensland,” he said.
