Michael O’Callaghan (pictured) has joined Lander & Rogers as a partner within its real estate and projects practice group and will be based in its Sydney office.

The national law firm has indicated that this appointment will bolster its capabilities within critical sectors, including construction, engineering, resources, and infrastructure projects.

O’Callaghan brings with him 15 years of experience, having held roles in both private practice and senior in-house legal roles.

Lander & Rogers has highlighted his expertise in several areas, including contract negotiations, project delivery services, strategic legal advisory, and dispute resolution.

Before joining the BigLaw firm, O’Callaghan served as an assistant general counsel at Seymour Whyte, where he was responsible for “provided strategic leadership and management of the legal function across a wide variety of complex infrastructure procurement models and projects”.

Additionally, O’Callaghan held a senior position at Lendlease Engineering, where he “managed material disputes and claims and led legal teams through high-stakes project negotiations”.

Tim McDonald, a partner in Lander & Rogers real estate and projects practice group, expressed that O’Callaghan’s extensive experience and proven track record of success will considerably enhance the team.

“Michael’s breadth of experience and proven leadership in high-profile construction and infrastructure projects make him an exceptional addition to our team.

“His pragmatic legal approach and track record of success will be invaluable as we continue to deliver innovative solutions to our clients and expand our practice nationally,” McDonald said.

“Michael’s dual offering as both a front-end and back-end advisor allows him to assist a variety of clients from project inception to dispute resolution.”

Speaking on his appointment, O’Callaghan shared his enthusiasm about his new position, stating: “I am excited to join Lander & Rogers and collaborate with a team renowned for its commitment to client service and legal excellence.

“My extensive in-house experience in both front-end and back-end matters allows me to understand the challenges, issues and risks in the construction and infrastructure markets for all stages of the project life cycle.”

He went on: “I look forward to applying my experience in construction and infrastructure to help clients navigate complex projects and achieve outstanding outcomes.”

This news follows the firm hiring two lateral partners for its real estate and corporate practices in late July, promoting 44, including seven partners, in June, as well as the addition of an environment and planning partner in mid-March and its hiring of a finance partner from BigLaw rival Hamilton Locke in late March.
