Olivia Hillier (pictured) has joined Maddocks as a partner within its employment, safety, and people practice, operating from the firm’s Sydney office.

Hillier has rejoined the national law firm, where she previously served as special counsel for six years. Following this, she worked as special counsel at BigLaw firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth and as in-house counsel at the Commonwealth Bank.

The national law firm acknowledged that Hillier had established a “significant reputation” in contentious and non-contentious matters within employment law. Her focus areas include discrimination, industrial relations, work health and safety issues, as well as corporate transactions and mergers and acquisitions.

Hillier graduated from UNSW with a bachelor of arts and a bachelor of laws and then attended The College of Law Australia.

David Newman, Maddocks CEO, highlighted the significance of Hillier returning to the firm, noting her extensive knowledge and expertise in this rapidly evolving area of law.

“Olivia’s appointment will strengthen the firm’s focus on employment and WHS law, providing our clients with access to her deep knowledge and expertise across this rapidly changing area of law.

“Maddocks’ employment team already has a leading reputation, and Olivia’s arrival will further bolster its offering nationally. We are delighted to welcome Olivia as a new partner whose expertise will help our clients for many years to come,” Newman said.

Bruce Heddle, the head of employment at the firm’s Sydney office, expressed Hillier’s addition would enhance the depth and strengthen the range of services provided by the team.

“Olivia will provide an additional source of experience and knowledge for our team’s offering to our clients across all sectors. Olivia will undoubtedly help to strengthen the team and the exceptional service and value we deliver to those we advise,” Heddle said.

Speaking on her appointment, Hillier said: “Maddocks has continued to broaden its offering in the market. As one of Australia’s oldest firms, this growth is built on a long history of deep relationships and a commitment to its clients through its strong emphasis on collaboration to provide the best in advice across the board. I am truly excited to be a part of this modern firm and a part of its employment offering.”

This news follows the firm’s addition of a new partner to lead its competition law practice in December, its poaching of a team of four, including a partner, from Holding Redlich in October, its elevation of four to its partnership in early May, and its promotion of a further 60 professionals later that month.
