Gilbert + Tobin (G+T) has strengthened its expertise in the financial services sector by appointing Rachel Walker (pictured), who previously served as a partner for Dentons’ financial products and services group for over two years.

The national law firm has indicated that Walker will be pivotal in bolstering its financial services offerings due to her extensive expertise in advising “major banks, private credit market participants, banking service providers, and aggregators”.

G+T also highlighted Walker’s “proven ability” to navigate complex regulatory environments, establish new lending operations, and offer strategic insights on product development, all of which will enhance its capabilities within these domains.

Walker graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a bachelor of laws. She further advanced her education by completing a graduate diploma in legal practice at the Australian National University.

Tim Gordon, the executive partner at G+T, expressed his enthusiasm regarding Walker’s appointment and her capacity to assist their clients during a period of significant industry transformation.

“We are thrilled to welcome Rachel and her team to G+T. Rachel and her team will play a major role building on the already outstanding capability of our financial services regulatory practice and give our clients an edge as they navigate complex regulatory and commercial challenges during a period of rapid change,” Gordon said.

Speaking about her new position, Walker shared her excitement about joining the BigLaw firm and collaborating with a team that is equally passionate about “delivering innovative, client-focused solutions”.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join G+T and work with a team with a shared commitment to delivering innovative, client-focused solutions.

“Our breadth of expertise in complex financial services regulation and risk management, and ability to navigate the evolving regulatory landscape with pragmatic advice, will complement G+Ts market leading corporate advisory group and existing financial services offering,” Walker said.

“Together, we’re well positioned to provide the technical, commercial and strategic support our clients need to achieve their goals. As a team, we also look forward to contributing to G+T’s longstanding culture of excellence, integrity and good corporate citizenship.”

The news follows G+T elevating four lawyers to partner and half a dozen to special counsel in late May, the firm’s integration of a boutique banking and finance practice into its Perth operations in February, the appointment of UniSuper’s GC as a new partner in the same month, the nabbing of a partner from Pinsent Masons in late December, and in the same month, the arrival of a partner and her team from Clayton Utz.
