Effective from 1 January, four of the 14 lawyers were elevated to special counsel, six to senior associate, and four to associate, with the majority being female in line with the firm’s commitment to diversity.

Barry Nilsson also appointed a new marketing officer, Anne Henriksen.

Commenting on the promotions, chairman and insurance and health principal Peter Murdoch said they best reflected Barry Nilsson’s strategic objectives and commitment to attracting and retaining the best legal talent in the insurance space.

“These promotions, and the 27 promotions in July [last year], align with our 2025 strategic goals to develop and nurture our people and their career progression and highlight the rewarding career paths on offer at Barry Nilsson,” Murdoch said.

“It’s excellent to see an additional 15 next-generation leaders within the firm being identified and recognised for their expertise and talent.”

The insurance lawyers promoted to special counsel are Demi Peters, Ed Mitchell, Lisa Fairley and Monika Matesa.

The six new senior associates are Chris Cook, Eleni Georgoulopoulos, Elizabeth Boyle, Georgia Johnson, James Meehan, and Krishna Alister.

The four associates are Erika Chaparian, Emma Hickman, Rachael Ostenfeld and Sophie Hilditch.

Murdoch said that with the promotion of a significant number of women, the firm has continued to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.

With Barry Nilsson having achieved its strategic target of 40 per cent female representation at the leadership level, Murdoch said the firm remains committed to “nurturing an inclusive workplace where everyone is valued, and fairly rewarded, for their unique contributions”.

As for its 2025 strategic plan, Barry Nilsson said it has made “excellent progress” towards delivering sustainable growth across its national footprint and supporting the evolving needs of clients.

Murdoch said the priority moving forward would be to continue with its track record of “excellent client service”, which he said goes “hand in hand with an internal focus on staff engagement, and identifying, attracting and developing our future leaders”.

“We are pleased with the significant headway we’ve made in less than two years and are on track to delivering a number of our strategic goals ahead of the 2025 time frame,” Murdoch said.
