Thomson Geer takes tech and cyber team from HopgoodGanim
National law firm Thomson Geer has moved to bolster its IP and technology offerings with the appointment of a team of nine, including two partners, to its ranks.
Partner Hayden Delaney is bringing his team – comprising partner Steven Hunwicks, special counsel Briar Francis, senior associate Hannah Fas, associates Sarah Buchanan, Thomas Copley and Monica Nery, lawyer Jacob Currie, and paralegal Sarah Lucas – from HopgoodGanim to Thomson Geer.
The team will join the national practice in the new year.
Delaney and his team, Thomson Geer proclaimed in a statement, are “highly regarded and considered one of Queensland’s best technology law practices”. The firm added that Delaney advises on complex technology transactions, privacy, cyber security and data protection, intellectual property strategy and enforcement.
The news follows the firm’s taking of an employment team in Melbourne from KPMG Law in October, as well as the firm’s promotion of 50 professionals in early July and its merger with Tottle Partners in Perth in May.
It also follows Thomson Geer’s taking of another team from HopgoodGanim for its Perth-based corporate practice in 2022.
Speaking about the hires, Thomson Geer chief executive Adrian Tembel said: “The technology sector is rapidly evolving, with themes around digitisation, artificial intelligence, and cyber security of keen interest for clients.
“With Hayden and his team on board, we will be able to better serve our clients on such critical issues.”
