RedeMont seizes an independent and innovative future using Unity® Practice Management

Unity® Practice Management gives newly independent Gold Coast law firm RedeMont a technological edge as it strives to seize new opportunities nationwide.

As Gold Coast law firm RedeMont sets out on a newly independent path after 26 years as MinterEllison Gold Coast, Dye & Durham’s Unity® Practice Management is integral to its ambitions to be at the cutting edge of legal practice in Australia.

RedeMont Chief Operating Officer Lee James said the rebranding of the firm, which began trading under its new identity on November 4, represents an exciting new beginning.

RedeMont, which started on the Gold Coast 40 years ago trading as Witheriff Nyst before joining the MinterEllison Legal Group for 26 years, is now positioned to seize “massive opportunities’’ available on the Gold Coast and to grow its presence across Australia.

With Unity® Practice Management, Ms James believes RedeMont has the technological foundation to support its ambitions.

RedeMont began using a predecessor to the Unity® platform, NebuLAW, in 2023 which has been incorporated into Unity® since NebuLAW was acquired by Dye & Durham.

RedeMont had been attracted by the solution’s ability to integrate with other applications such as NetDocuments and Xero and has been impressed by its adaptability.

Empowering independence through technology

Ms James said the system had helped RedeMont in its return to independence.

“We have clients all over Australia and it enables us to have a national reach. It is really dependable in that regard, and being cloud-based it is mobile,’’ she said.

Ms James said the solution, an all-in-one cloud-based practice management solution tailor-made for SME legal & conveyancing firms in Australia, had helped drive efficiencies because of its ability to bring all of the applications needed in a law firm into one place.

Ms James said another attraction for RedeMont was that the solution was built on Salesforce and could be customised to the firm’s requirements.

Unity’s ability to integrate with other systems means that many of the firm’s client relationship management tools are available within the Unity® platform.

These include document management, client accounting records, verification of identity, title searches, and details of legal matters. The solution also enables RedeMont to manage its general ledger through the integration with Xero.

Ms James said Unity® would become more valuable to the firm in the future.

“We are probably only using a very small percentage of what the ultimate capabilities will be,’’ Ms James said.

User-friendly and data-driven
RedeMont is looking at introducing further integrations into Unity® such as its HR platform.

“We should ultimately be able to get a good integration with everything we are utilizing at the firm, so we have a really clear picture about what’s going on,’’ she said.

Ms James said the firm’s lawyers had also found it “intuitive’’ to use.

“I’ve done four new practice management system changes over the last 30-odd years and sometimes you have a week of training,’’ Ms James said. “I think our lawyers needed an hour with Unity,’’ Ms James said.

Technology has become increasingly critical in the operations of the firm which has 41 lawyers and around 70 staff.

Ms James said Unity’s data analytics are “fantastic’’.

“I can build reports myself; I can pull the exact data that I want, from productivity to financial performance to matters to new client growth,’’ she said. “It’s so adaptable.’’

Preparing for the future with AI
Looking to the future, Ms James believes the fact that Unity® is built on Salesforce will make it easily able to embrace new innovations such as the integration of Artificial Intelligence.

RedeMont is taking a very cautious approach to its adaption of AI to protect client confidentiality and privacy, but Ms James believes it will have a massive impact on the law.

Ms James said RedeMont wanted a platform that looked to the future.

“From our perspective we really thought we were future proofing,’’ Ms James said.

“We could see the massive opportunity with what has now become Unity for us to continue to provide excellent service to our clients, and to innovate, because this platform has the ability to add so much on,’’ Ms James said.

“We are an innovative firm. We want to be cutting edge wherever we can be.

“So that is the benefit of adopting this system,’’ she said.
