White & Case promotes 49, including 2 in Australia
Global law firm White & Case has promoted 22 lawyers to local partner and 27 lawyers to counsel, including two counsel in Australia.
White & Case have promoted 49 staff to more senior roles across the globe, including two to counsel in Melbourne.
The promotions are effective 1 January 2025 and include 16 counsel and one local partner in the Americas region, 17 local partners and 10 counsel across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), and two local partners and three counsel across the Asia-Pacific region.
In Australia, Donovan Ang and Matt Sercombe have both been named counsel in the firm’s project development and finance practice, based in Melbourne.
Ang’s practice focuses on advising clients on the development and sale of major infrastructure projects across various sectors, including renewable energy, transport, and social infrastructure, as well as defence procurement and the development of various commercial and mixed-use building projects.
Sercombe has expertise in advising clients on the delivery and financing of major infrastructure and power projects, in particular government procurement and privatisations, including large-scale wind farms, transport and social infrastructure, petroleum, mining and civil construction.
Additionally, in the Asia-Pacific region, Sebyul Chun, based in Seoul, has been named a local partner in the commercial litigation practice; Sabrina Lee, based in Hong Kong, has been named counsel in the firm’s debt finance practice; and Philip Tan, based in Singapore, has been named a local partner within the White & Case international arbitration practice.
The news follows the poaching of two partners from A&O Shearman earlier this month, the addition of a partner from BigLaw rival Maddocks in September, the firm’s naming of two new Australian partners in mid-November last year and its appointment of two counsel Down Under later that month.
Speaking about the new appointments, White & Case chair Heather McDevitt said the promotions were well deserved.
“Representing 12 global practices and 21 offices across the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific, the 49 lawyers being promoted have a wide range of skills, experience and backgrounds that underline the diverse and truly global nature of White & Case,” she said.
“They have all made significant contributions to the firm’s success through the exceptional service they provide to our clients, and we are proud to see them take this important step in their careers.”
