Dentons takes tax team from rival BigLaw firm
A partner, senior associate, and solicitor have joined Dentons’ national tax practice from Hamilton Locke.
Partner Damien Bourke has joined Dentons Brisbane office, bringing with him over 25 years of experience in complex commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution strategies.
Commenting on the moves, Dentons Australia chair and Australasia region CEO Doug Stipanicev said the team builds on the strategic importance the firm has placed on its tax disputes practice.
“Tax disputes continues to be an area of significant growth.
“Damien is highly regarded in his field, and his appointment expands the offering we are able to provide clients.
“I’m delighted to welcome Damien and his team to Dentons,” Stipanicev said.
Bourke has specialised in tax litigation, mediation, estate planning, tax controversy – including Australian Taxation Office (ATO) reviews and audits – and the settlement of disputes.
He also has extensive experience in managing the relationships between clients and the ATO.
“The tax landscape in Australia is extremely complex,” Bourke said.
“I’m excited to be joining Dentons tax team, which now boasts partner-level expertise in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.”
The appointment of Bourke and his team follows Dentons hiring of Sue Williamson and her tax team in Melbourne in 2023.
Earlier this month, Dentons also elected its first female Australian chair, Amber Warren.
The month prior, an employment and safety team was poached from Holding Redlich.
