MinterEllison takes financial services expert from HSF
A financial services regulatory expert from Herbert Smith Freehills has been poached by MinterEllison.
Tony Coburn will join MinterEllison as a senior adviser on regulatory from 18 November, bringing over a long history of assisting clients with consumer credit and retail banking law, payment systems regulation, personal property security laws, and anti-money laundering.
“The firm’s multi-disciplinary team of legal and consulting practitioners across strategy, regulation, risk and governance very much appealed to me,” Coburn added.
MinterEllison said it would call on Coburn for his deep expertise in guiding clients on the development and distribution of regulated financial products, retail banking transactions, electronic banking and payment systems.
Partner and financial services leader Michael Lawson said clients are navigating the “high bar” set by Australian regulators “to create a strong, stable and reliant banking system”.
“The addition of Tony’s deep regulatory expertise to our existing market-leading financial services regulatory practice will be welcomed by our clients,” Lawson said.
Coburn’s appointment follows the arrival of seven new partners from PwC to MinterEllison’s risk and regulatory team earlier this month.
Virginia Briggs, chief executive and managing partner, said she was thrilled to welcome the new partners.
“Their unparalleled expertise and insight will undoubtedly enhance our ability to not only meet the current demands of clients but also to help them thrive in their increasingly dynamic and complex operating environments,” Briggs said.
