Holding Redlich grows Canberra team with 2 partners
Two partners have been added to Holding Redlich’s “rapidly growing” Canberra office.
As part of an appointment plan in the wake of the new Whole of Australian Government Legal Services Panel, Holding Redlich has added Nevin Agnew and Jeremy Johnson to its Canberra office.
Elizabeth Carroll, partner and head of Holding Redlich’s Canberra office, said the expansion of the team “reflects our commitment to the Commonwealth and public sector”.
“Nevin and Jeremy’s expertise aligns perfectly with our focus on delivering exceptional legal services tailored to the specific needs of government agencies. We are excited about the collaborative opportunities this presents,” Carroll said.
Formerly of MinterEllison, Agnew specialises in insurers, private companies, and government clients in insurance-backed litigation for professional indemnity. He also covers policy drafting and interpretation and provides strategic guidance to clients.
In addition to large class actions in the Federal Court and his work for public sector clients in proceedings, Agnew has a dedicated interest in aviation-related incidents and has contributed to the establishment of Comcover, the government’s self-managed insurance scheme.
On his move, Agnew said Holding Redlich’s reputation in the Australian government sector, and its presence as a national firm, “provides a fantastic platform to support our clients”.
“I’m looking forward to working with a forward-thinking team that’s dedicated to delivering real results as the team continues to expand,” Agnew said.
Also from MinterEllison, Johnson has represented Commonwealth departments, agencies and entities, as well as a range of corporate clients. He has a particular expertise in claims against public authorities, including in novel duties of care.
Johnson has acted in claims before the High Court, Federal Court, various supreme courts and the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.
He said he was drawn to Holding Redlich by its “great culture and the quality of the work” the team has been doing.
“The firm’s mix of deep sector knowledge and its nimble, responsive approach are what sets it apart in the market,” Johnson said.
National managing partner Troy Lewis said their appointments represented a “pivotal step” in strengthening the firm’s offerings to Australian government clients.
“Their deep understanding of the public sector’s unique legal landscape enhances our capacity to provide nuanced and effective advice,” Lewis said.
