Bird & Bird nabs partner from DLA Piper
International law firm Bird & Bird has appointed a new partner in Sydney, who joins from BigLaw rival DLA Piper.
Bird & Bird has bolstered its technology and data protection offering with the addition of a new partner, Nicholas Boyle.
Based in Sydney, Boyle was most recently a technology and cyber partner at DLA Piper, where he led the Sydney IP and technology team for four years. He has expertise in the technology and data protection space and advises on M&A and data breach response.
“I am excited to be joining Bird & Bird – a firm with a renowned reputation for being a collegiate, international law firm,” he said.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to maintain and grow our existing client relationships and ensuring the firm’s success in Australia and across the Bird & Bird network.”
This comes after the addition of new partners Masi Zaki and Bill Smith from BigLaw rivals in early October and comes at a period of growth for Bird & Bird, with two partner promotions in the IP practice and the appointment of five new partners in the firm’s corporate M&A, dispute resolution, finance and financial regulation and sports teams.
Boyle’s appointment, according to Bird & Bird Australia managing partner Shane Barber, is a key part of the firm’s growth strategy in Sydney.
“Nicholas’ arrival is a key part of our strategic ambitions at Bird & Bird to grow our technology and data protection team in Sydney. His extensive experience will bolster our capabilities to support our clients in Australia on technology matters, particularly in the data protection and privacy space,” he said.
“I look forward to seeing him flourish at Bird & Bird in Sydney and work closely with our colleagues across the firm’s international network.”
