Former in-house lawyer joins Unisearch
Unisearch has appointed a former in-house lawyer as its new business development manager, which coincides with the opening of the provider’s new Melbourne office.
After working in the legal industry for nine years, Christopher Aaron Yong has joined Unisearch as a business development manager.
In his new role, Yong will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and growing Unisearch’s presence within Australia, particularly in the Victorian market, and comes as Unisearch’s new office at Normanby Chambers in Melbourne opens.
“Unisearch experts are renowned for their contribution and significant impact across law and justice, policy reform and academia. The company’s mission to connect academic knowledge with practical industry solutions aligns perfectly with my legal background and commitment to advancement and innovation,” Yong said.
“In this role, I aim to leverage my legal expertise and experience with high-profile domestic and international clients to build strong, strategic relationships. My goal is to bring a fresh perspective to the practice, combining legal insights with an understanding of market dynamics.
“My focus is on fostering long-term partnerships and exploring new opportunities, particularly in the Victorian market. In addition, I’m acutely aware of ensuring that we respond to the legal professions’ evolving needs, particularly at times of rapid disruption and inflection.”
Most recently, Yong worked as a legal counsel for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, after working at BigLaw firms Holding Redlich, Thomson Geer, and Lander & Rogers. He also won awards in 2021 and 2022 at the 30 Under 30 Awards and is a board member of the UTS Foundation, promoting philanthropic support for students, research, and various initiatives.
Head of Unisearch, expert opinion and consulting, Barbara Kougellis, said Yong’s legal background would be a valuable addition to the team.
“We’re thrilled to have Christopher join Unisearch’s team and spearhead its business development initiatives. With extensive in-house and corporate legal experience, Christopher is extremely well-positioned to understand the emerging and upcoming requirements for the legal profession in an ever-changing landscape,” she said.
“Importantly, his addition will enable Unisearch to increase its engagement with individual lawyers and practices.”
