Carroll & O’Dea celebrates 125 years of practice
Last week, Carroll & O’Dea celebrated 125 years of practice, which its managing partner says represents a “celebration of our people and our values”.

Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers has commemorated its 125th anniversary, marking over a century of dedicated service since its founding in 1899.
First established by JJ Carroll on Elizabeth Street in Sydney, the firm has since developed into a BigLaw firm, with over 200 staff members providing comprehensive legal services across NSW, Victoria, and Tasmania, as well as the ACT.
Hanaan Indari, the firm’s first female manager partner, said that the anniversary was “an extraordinary day in our history”.
“Our staff today, and all those who have shared in the Carroll & O’Dea Lawyers’ journey over the past 12 and a half decades, have made an incredible contribution not just to the firm but also to the legal community and more broadly,” she said.
Indari reflected on the firm’s enduring commitment to its fundamental principles, underscoring the importance of a “people-focused” culture that has been the foundation of Carroll & O’Dea’s longevity and sustained success.
“Our longevity has been built on generations of a ‘people-focused’ culture drawing upon the value and strength of being a team and sharing the values that inspired our founders,” she said.
“Excellence in legal services, giving back to the community, providing access to justice, embracing diversity and working together.”
Speaking on a recent episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, she also articulated how the BigLaw firm has successfully adapted to and maintained its relevance amid the evolving legal landscape by consistently embracing adaptability and innovation over the years.
Indari expressed how this anniversary not only marks a moment of reflection but also acknowledges the contributions of all those who have been part of Carroll & O’Dea’s journey over the past 125 years.
“Every person who has worked at the firm over 125 years has left their own mark, and they are very much a part of the living history that we celebrate today,” she said.
“I am very proud to be managing partner on this unique day, and I am as excited as I have ever been for the firm and its future. I am certain it will be as rewarding and exciting as our 125 years of history to date.”
