McCabes adds principal for Brisbane-based insurance team
National law firm McCabes has expanded its insurance capabilities with the appointment of a new principal for its Brisbane office.
Kim Waygood (pictured) has joined McCabes as a principal, having come across from HBA Legal, where she served for five and a half years, mostly as a special counsel. She also formerly worked at Ashurst.
She specialises, McCabes outlined in a statement, in public liability, workers’ compensation, professional indemnity, product liability, and insurance disputes, and has comprehensive experience in medical negligence, regulatory investigations, and coronial inquiries, working with insurers and self-insured corporations across industries, including retail, hospitality, construction, and mining.
The news follows the firm’s appointment of a new commercial principal in late August, its promotion of 15, including three to principal, in July, as well as the launching of a new internship program for Indigenous law students and lawyers, as reported by Lawyers Weekly in February.
Speaking about her new role, Waygood said: “I am pleased to join McCabes and look forward to contributing to the firm’s strong reputation within the insurance sector.”
McCabes managing principal Andrew Lacey said: “Kim’s proven expertise and highly regarded insurance litigation background make her an exceptional asset to McCabes, specifically in vitalising the capabilities of our insurance offering in Brisbane.
“Her expertise, combined with her impressive leadership skills, will deliver outstanding results for our clients and strengthen the talent within our wider insurance division.”
