Riley Gay has joined Ligeti Partners, having come across from global firm Clyde & Co, where he served for nearly five years as a senior associate and then special counsel.

He brings, the firm said in a statement, more than a decade of experience in insurance litigation with expertise extending across several areas, including professional liability, general insurance disputes and cyber insurance.

Gay will practice in the firm’s commercial and residential property insurance team and be based in its Melbourne office.

The appointment, Ligeti managing director James Mulcahy said, will further bolster a team that has grown significantly in the last 18 months.

“Since early 2023, we’ve been fortunate to secure the services of a number of talented lawyers,” he said.

“Their addition has really strengthened our team and allowed us to deliver an even higher level of service to our clients. The growth of that team has created an opportunity for a further leader in the team, and we’re thrilled Riley has decided to join us.

“Riley has a background of working in top-tier firms and brings a wealth of experience and diverse skill set. He has acted in a range of different areas of insurance litigation and, more importantly, is an approachable and excellent communicator with his clients.

“The fact he has chosen to continue his career with Ligeti Partners is a great endorsement of our firm’s direction and recent success of the commercial and residential property insurance team.

“Riley will work closely with Sindri Bergsson and Andrew Sawkins, and I’m confident [he] will be a great addition to our team.”
