26 NSW barristers appointed senior counsel
The NSW Bar Association appointed 26 barristers as senior counsel.
President Ruth Higgins SC on Friday (4 October) announced that 18 men and eight women have been appointed to senior counsel.
The announcement follows the appointment of 25 senior counsel in Victoria. Chief Justice Anne Ferguson said the title was “an acknowledgement of their integrity and standing” in the profession.
Over the last month, barrister John Catsanos SC was appointed judge of the District Court of NSW, Tony McAvoy SC was named part-time commissioner of the Australian Law Reform Commission, and Judge Andrew Coleman was elevated to the NSW Supreme Court.
In May, commercial barrister Tim Faulkner SC was appointed as a judge at the NSW Supreme Court.
